We’ve put together a list of 13 chilling TV show episodes all about cameras, the mysterious people who use them, and the creepy things they capture.

1. Tale of the Photo Finish” (2000)
Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Chandler steals a painting, expecting that it will help him get into his private school’s exclusive club. What he doesn’t expect is that the painting is hiding an old photo of  someone who still wants to take pictures, even from beyond the grave.

Some photographers really never put the camera down.

2. “Tale of the Curious Camera” (1994)
Are You Afraid of the Dark? 

beforeWhen Matt is given an antique camera that possesses some not-so-nice powers (whoever gets their photo taken has something bad happen to them afterwards) he uses it against his bullies. But then the camera turns its power on Matt and his friends…

3. “Say Cheese and Die” (1996)
Goosebumps 

beforeGreg finds a cool instant camera in a spooky old house, only to discover that the photos he’s taking with it look very different once they’ve developed. Instead of smiling portraits, the photos depict disasters that eventually begin to come true.

4. “Say Cheese and Die…Again” (1998)

Greg gives an oral report on his old disaster-causing camera, only to get an “F” from a teacher who doesn’t believe him. To prove his teacher wrong, Greg finds the camera again…but the outcomes prove to be just as terrifying as before.

Come on, Greg. You had to see that one coming.

5. “A Most Unusual Camera” (1960)
Twilight Zone

A husband and wife rob a shop in the hopes of selling their loot for cash, only to find out that everything they took is worthless. Everything except a particular camera that takes photos of its subject five minutes into the future. The couple decides to use this power to win money at the race track.

What could possibly go wrong?

6. “Forever Ambergris”  (1993)
Tales from the Crypt

Envy rears its ugly head! A “has-been” (ouch) combat photographer is jealous of his up-and-coming protégé. So he devises a deadly plan to rid himself of the young photog while they’re out on assignment in Central America.

7. “The Photographer and the Undertaker” (1965)
The Alfred Hitchcock Hour    

beforeArthur and Hiram don’t appear to have much in common. After all, Arthur is a photographer and Hiram is an undertaker. There’s one little thing though: both men are also hired killers who have the same boss. One other little thing: they’ve each been ordered to kill the other.

8. “Going Native”  (1988)
Tales from the Darkside   

beforeAn alien has been sent to Earth to study the behavior of humans, assimilating herself in the body of a woman. She takes and examines photos of her daily life in order to better understand the new world around her, and the photos (depicting both happiness and depression) end up having a very human effect on her.

9. “Hide” (2013)
Dr. Who   

beforeThe Doctor and Clara visit a manor in 1974 to aid in the investigation of a ghost who has been haunting the premises for over 100 years. It is through the examination of ghostly photography that the Doctor is able to come to an interesting conclusion.

10. “Camera Obscura” (1971)
Night Gallery

“Camera Obscura” is the second vignette in this Night Gallery episode. The short story’s about a grumpy old banker who finds himself trapped in a personal hell after viewing his client’s strange optical device.

Maybe he should have been a little more understanding about those ridiculous loan interests!

The Outer Limits

Two friends participating in a Battle of Gettysburg re-enactment get their photo taken by a photographer who just so happens to be a time traveler. And by “get their photo taken” we mean that the photographer transports them back to the actual battle in 1863.

The X-Files 

beforeA freelance crime photographer is raising suspicion because he always manages to show up to a murder scene right after the murder takes place. Is he killing people just to be the first to take their photo? Or does he just have really great commuting routes?
