My name is Season Moore, and I’m a contemporary children’s photographer in Raleigh, NC. I am also a wife and the mom of two young kids. I love what I do, and I’m glad to have the chance to share a little bit of that with you as a new contributor to Photojojo Uncut.

But I’m not here to get into the nitty-gritty basics of photography — I’ll be focusing on topics of interest to the moms and dads out there in PhotojojoLand. I’ll give you some behind-the-scenes info on my own work (OK, so there might be a little nitty-gritty talk) and share my tips for working with babies and kids, and I’ll also introduce you to some of my favorite photographers.

The photo above, taken with a Nikon D200, was the final shot from my latest session. I’m a natural-light photographer, so every indoor image is taken using light from a nearby window. In this case we were directly facing a set of windows about five feet away. At nearly two weeks old, this little guy was one of my older newborns. The younger infants – most of my newborn subjects are less than a week old – are sleepier, and you can move into position without disturbing them. As they days go by they get more alert, and it’s harder to get that precious scrunched-up newborn look.

Now, as much as I like to talk – just ask my husband! – I may run out of things to say. So I need to hear from you! Drop in to the Photojojo Forums with specific questions you might have, products you’d like to share or topics you’d like to discuss. If you see a particular photo on my site that you’d like more information on, please let me know. I’d also love to see your photos and the fun things you’ve done with them. So please share!

For Mother’s Day I plan on transforming my mom’s computer from the most expensive solitaire game I’ve ever seen into OurFamily Channel by installing Tubes for her.

Tubes beta is free, but the software is Windows only right now (unless you run Parallels on your Mac). You get 2 GB of disk space and can invite as many people as you’d like to share your tubes. Invite the entire family and then everyone can share their photos by dropping pictures on the Tube.

The best part is I can fix the pictures on my end and everyone else’s pictures are fixed too!

Fret not, ShutterClock is going to do its part to help you out on May 11.

ShutterClock has several ways to participate but all let you share images taken at the same time in different geographic locations. I heart these types of projects because they give you a quick, achievable photography goal that can kickstart better photography habits. Check it out and join in!

Thanks to Photojojo reader/ShutterClock creator Ronan for letting us know about his project. Got your own project, let us know!

It is easy to forget, with all the shiny bells and whistles of digital, that photography wasn’t always something the masses had access to. Shorpy.com is a photo blog showcasing images taken a hundred years ago.

From the site

“How people looked and what they did for a living, back when not having a job usually meant not eating. We’re starting with a collection of photographs taken in the early 1900s by Lewis Wickes Hine as part of a decade-long field survey for the National Child Labor Committee, which lobbied Congress to end the practice. One of his subjects, a young coal miner named Shorpy Higginbotham, is the site’s namesake.”

Great idea and lots of fun for photography history geeks (guilty!).

Take a picture on or around the same day every year, and compile them in rows. The good thing about this composition is that each picture is taken individually, so if you can’t get the whole family together at the same time, you can still have an accurate representation of each person’s image on that particular day.
