The Most Popular Camera is now… a phone?!

Flickr_ Camera Finder-1.jpg
According to to the photo-sharing site’s public data, the iPhone just surpassed all other cameras to be the most used camera on Flickr.

There is a minor caveat, of course: every iPhone (whether 2G, 3G, or 3G S) identifies itself simply as an “iPhone”, no model number. Unlike other camera models, which carry their own unique model string in photo EXIF data.

Still, it’s a pretty telling statistic.

Now that many of our phones have cameras that take photos that really are good enough for most situations, and our capacity to take photos (without worry for film cost or memory space) is nearly limitless, expect our usage of photography to continue to shift in this direction — from dedicated cameras to always-present devices. From special occasions, to everyday documentation.
