The $40 DIY Digital Photo Frame

Yes, the screen is small (3″), but it’s a digital photo frame, and it’s darned cheap.

Mark Wilson’s $40 DIY Digital Photo Frame uses the Juicebox digital media player, available on eBay for anywhere from $10-$30. You can also buy it new for $20-$50, depending on where you get it.

Here’s a pic of the same frame made by someone else.

A fun and cheap weekend project! And a great alternative to the nicer, but more expensive digital photo frame project we just covered in the newsletter!

Definitely neither DIY, nor small, nor cheap... but still good fun...

I'm a happy owner of a 19" electronic picture frame from www.photovu.com, which can get its pictures from a thumbdrive or a wired/wireless TCP/IP feed. Their neatest addition is the ability to grab photos, via RSS, from Flickr/Smugmug/etc, so that whenever the Flickr site is updated with new pics, the frame on your wall is updated.

Definitely not cheap, at $700-1100, but includes nice wood frame, no fan, and a Unix OS controlling things. Both the frame and the pics showing on it are nice conversation starters. In some ways, it's like Ceiva on steroids.

I agree with the previous poster ... since the price of these is coming down very quickly, its now possible to get a 7 inch model for less than $100 such as this one http://www.digivista.com.au/product_digivista_c...
