Dead tree on Gilmore Road, Scappoose, OR. I liked the contrast between the cloudy sky, the tree, and the colorful foliage in front. Best viewed large. I'm noticing that the small versions in the threads are not as colorful as the larger versions. Click on image for large version.

You are correct, Tufteach. That image looks 1000% better when  enlarged. That tree must have been interesting, too, when covered with leaves.

When we moved here in the early 80's, this tree was then only a trunk with a few scraggly (dead) branches, about fifteen feet high. The owner (then) of the property cut it back to a short stump. Over the years it has grown into this huge specimen which now, even spreads its top branches over our backyard. The birds love it as it provides ideal viewing "platforms" of the neighbourhood. It would be around sixty feet high, I guess. In the early morning light it looked quite magnificent.

Amazing how quickly it's grown, Degilbo. Sadly, we just had to cut down a very tall quick-growing white pine,as we had an ice storm last year, and so many branches came down that the tree wasn't safe anymore (or even very pretty). It's actually nice not having it now, as we get so much more light in my kitchen now. We still have plenty of shade on the property, so it's not a problem there.

Here's a tree I've been staring at longingly for years (from the car) and finally remembered to stop for yesterday:

That tree looks so black, Superdewa, has it been affected by fire, or is it just the angle of view that makes it appear so?

Thanks, Belle.

Degilbo -- I'm not really seeing it as so black, either on my monitor or my in-laws', where I am now, and I know it's not burnt, but there is certainly a silhouettish feel to it. The sun was over my right shoulder.

So, it was front lit and you still got a silhouette-ish look?  That's weird

This was taking by the hiking path on Hachimantai, near Morioka, Japan.
