Hi Kevin, welcome.
That's Rodia's photo - I realize you're saying you like it, not claiming it, but I want to make it clear for everyone who reads this.

Now here's an unusual shot. A two headed bird? <LOL> No, just the angle these two Noisy Miner Birds sat at makes them appear as one, with two heads :-)

And here is an equally unusual shot of those Noisy Miner birds - four in one sitting! They all came to see what the ruckus was when I was attempting to capture an image of a Blue-faced Honeyeater in a neighbour's tree near or fence. The Honeyeater was very agitated and hopped around in the frangipanni tree, squawking all the time, not sitting in one place long enough for a shot. The Miner birds flew down, sat for a while on the fence, and finally saw the Honeyeater "off the premises <LOL>. Least I did get some good shots of them :-)
The Noisy Miner (Manorina melanocephala) is a bird common to the eastern and southern states of Australia. It ranges from northern Queensland along the eastern coast to South Australia and Tasmania. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noisy_miner

Degilbo - I love these! The first is actually really sweet (they don't look like a two-headed freak-bird when viewed larger!) And in the second - I like how they're all doing their own thing. I also enjoy the textures - fence, bird legs, feathers- and the colors. The birds' bodies, the fence, and the house in the background are all so similar in color that it makes the yellow around their eyes and on their beaks (and those greenish feathers on their sides) really "pop". Lovely. Truly.

Degilbo- I LOVE bird pictures! Especially since I have 4 myself. This is my 4 year old Parrotlet, Chip.

I almost called him "Beaker" (a character he looks like from the show "The Muppets").

Cute little bird at the park.

Degilbo, glad you explained the first Noisy Miner Birds photo...for a minute there I thought I was seeing double! Love the name...is there also a Quiet Miner Bird? and the descriptive name "Blue-faced Honeyeater." We also have some common birds..Red-eyed Garbagepicker (AKA NYC pigeon) and the Canadian Huge Poop-Dropper (AKA Canadian Goose heading south).
Swintime, Chip looks full of personality. Does he let you pet those silky feathers on his head?

Thanks for all the compliments - really appreciated! As for the name "Noisy", it derives from their frenzied activity - vocalized - when they sense a predator around. And anything that moves, other than a Miner bird, is a "predator" in their eyes <LOL>. They take on birds of all sizes - crows, magpies, currawongs. They don't have much success with kookaburras though. The kookaburras treat them with indifference :-). We do have an Indian Miner bird, a bird that I have yet to capture a good image of as they are very timid (see http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/bird/36 ). They could be called "quiet" I suppose, as they are nowhere near as rowdy as their local cousins. You can hear what they both sound like here (#'s 19 and 20) http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/feature … -songs.cfm
I couldn't believe my luck with the shots I took of the Miners on the fence. They were only about 8 feet away from me and not at all concerned about my presence. They had one intention - after all the grooming - to rid the neighbourhood of the Honeyeater :-). And they did!
Belle, I love those apt names for your birds <LOL>.
Swintime, your little Beaker looks a friendly little chap. We haven't had caged birds for many, many years. Had two budgerigars back in the 80's and they both died with a couple of weeks - loneliness for the second one, I guess.

Since we're talking names -- There's actually no such bird as the Canadian Goose. It's a Canada Goose -- something one relearns when one has children who take advantage of every nature/animal class they can get.

The Canada Goose is my favorite bird (despite the mess!) I've gotten used to the fact that most people call them "Canadian" - although I'm always quick to correct my husband. Sometimes he forgets just to "get my goose." (Ugh. Sorry. Had to be done.)

The Canada Goose, ay....thanks for the correction, Superd and mm. I remember going to the 35-acre Pepsico Sculpture Park in Purchase, NY, after the Canada Geese had passed through. You learned very quickly to look down and not up at the sculpture! Photojojo is so much more than just about photography...remember the thread where someone gave me a recipe for Pasta and fresh tomato sauce? Canada Goose is not Canadian...and now Degilbo is "giving us the bird" calls!

Yes, Belle, this group is a great one for learning about new things photographically, new places around the world and the things that inhabit the world. I have learnt a lot and that is why I try to contribute with "explanations" on most things I post, just as a "thank you". I must admit I did miss that recipe for pasta and fresh tomato sauce, though <LOL>! Which reminds, it is getting near dinner-time here, so I will now have to take off my photographer's hat and put on my chef's one, and depart <LOL>!

Belle - I remember that! And the collage you posted of it, too! I had to look it up again: http://photojojo.com/forum/viewtopic.ph … 62&p=1
edit: The recipe is from MichaelinItaly and is toward the end of the first page. Belle's collage is on the second page.
