flashy flickr awards

In that pet peeves post, those flashy flickr awards/invites were discussed. What do you do when you get one? Ignore it? Join & invite three others (or whatever the rule is) just to be polite?

It's a bit like collecting stamps, isn't it, Superdewa :-)? Most  of them I ignore, in particularly the ones that require "comments" on three or more others. If I like an image (found from browsing flickr), I will post a comment but I don't feel that it should be "compulsory" at any time. My other pet "peeve" are the large - and larger - icons for those groups that adorn comments. They just make scrolling through "comments" so tedious. But then, I suppose it's every one's right to make rules for their group. They must lose a lot of potential contributors, though.

I've gotten a couple and I've joined both... but I also haven't submitted any images... because I also don't like being FORCED to comment.  One of my regular groups just switched to post 1 comment 2 and my participation has gone waaaay down.  Truth is my average probably WAS comment 2 post 1... but now that I HAVE to??

and I'm agreed on the comment icons.  The only one I do it for IS the one I was a member of before they required commenting-- because other than that?  I do really enjoy and appreciate the group.

Will, I hadn't either, and I was a little envious of the people who complained, but then I had my Pioneer Woman experience, and that photo is getting all sorts of attention (funny, because personally I think I have better photos, but it's the PW link that's making people interested). I got one subtle request to add my photo to a group, which I was happy to do, but I had another flashy award for a post one comment on three group, and I neither want to be obligated to comment on other photos nor do I want to have to include that flashy icon when I do comment, but I like to be friendly, so I'm feeling guilty. It feels a little like a chain letter. So no, you don't want flashy awards. The other kind are fine though.

haha.  I'd be happy to accept the attention since I obviously take photos for others to see, but yeah I'll never comment unless I actually feel like it.  And I'll never include a flashy graphic in my comments.. that habit died with Myspace.

I've had one or two awards, I normally accept them and add the photo to their group if they invite me to, unless the logo is really garish and flashy.
I don't post them on other people's photos: If I like someone else's shot, I'll comment and perhaps fave it if I really like it.

These award groups tend to become very group-huggy, where anything any member posts gets multiples of the same award, which seems a touch pointless to me... Surely these awards work better if they're only awarded to really good work as the group members come across it?

The photos that tend to be in these groups also tend to be posted in about a hundred other groups too. roll

I have to agree with you Ben on the award things.  I have posted in a few groups some get comments and the last ones I posted got nothing.

Oh well I just wanted to get a bit of exposure. :-P    I usually comment whether I have posted a pic or not.  Some of the shots on these sites are awesome.

superdewa............I guess that was a bad choice of words...I didn't know that these groups were hmmm how to put it clicky???  Anyway I know that If I put a shot up on a group it will be just because I like it and want people to see it.  :-P
In fact I really never knew about all the different groups on flickr until I  ran across them piddling around.
Superdewa.......thank you for looking at my stuff I appreciate it.  :-)  I know I'm not on here all that much, sometimes I just get so busy with life and work.

Superd here is something that someone posted so that they wouldn't get those flashy things and invites  .......  No Group Invites/ Graphics or adverts Please, they will be deleted.
That's the first time I have seen someone post something like that.

As I said -- I'm thrilled to be asked to be in a group, especially if the invitation is subtle. I just don't really want to be asked to be in a group where I'm going to have to send out flashy invites to other people. I'm flattered to be invited to that group, but I don't want to be part of it, and I don't want to hurt their feelings if I don't join.

To me it seems that people use the flashy things when they don't want to say anything.
I have joined groups on my own and have been invited to one.
I haven't used the flashy invites for the one I was invited to.  I guess if they want to kick me out because I comment and don't post the invites.......oh well..
I always comment on a shot I like whether I'm a member or not....:-P
I don't think that... or should I say....  they shouldn't get upset if you don't join.  How can they really keep track of who all is inviting someone to their group.
Anyway just my 2 cents.  :-)
