Who are you guys?
So, I've been talking to you guys for nearly a year now (362 days, to be exact). I like a lot of you and I feel like I've gotten to know some of you, but I really only know what you've said about cameras and other opinions relating to them.
What are your hobbies besides cameras? Where are you from? What do you do for a living? And.. what's your favorite color? Or whatever the heck else you feel like including. Post a self portrait, too! I only know what Amit and maybe a couple others look like, and even then only because of avatars.
I'll start with me. I'm from Gainesville, FL (GATORS! Woop.), I'm 18 years old, and my favorite color is red. I'm a real techy nerdy kid. I went to a computer program in high school and I basically do anything that has to do with computers. Obviously I'm still learning, but I've gotten my feet wet in just about every field. Besides that I'm super social (student body president, student ambassador) and I'm always spending my time going to local concerts. Currently working on getting my A+ and MCDST certifications in the next few months and then I'm starting a bachelor's degree in computer science with a journalism minor.
So, what about you guys? I swear, I'll read all of them.
Oh, and finally, a picture of me

EDIT: Oh, duh. My name is Will! I kind of assumed you'd all figure that out though ;D

Willastic, impressive bio! I knew you were very smart by your posts. I am so glad you started this new post. I, too, have wondered about the folks who are in this forum. It is the first forum I have ever joined and being a naturally curious (nosey?!) person, want to know more about the people involved. So, here goes…
As I stated in my profile I am a teacher, lifelong learner, mother, grandmother, animal and nature lover, not necessarily in that order! I am developing an obsession for photography and have sooo much to learn. This ‘older’ brain takes longer to learn and remember things, but I am determined. I earned my BS in elementary education from the University of Texas, El Paso, nineteen years ago and that was after being out of school for 20 years. I taught in El Paso for 11 years at the same school before moving to Oregon in 1999. I moved in order to stay close to my son and his family who had moved to the Portland area.. We live in a rural area about 25 miles northwest of Portland. I have had several different teaching jobs since moving here. I earned my Masters in Educational Technology from Grand Canyon University in an online program in 2006. Computer technology has fascinated me since I bought my first computer (a TI 99, I think) for about $50 in the late 80’s. Being a teacher, my focus has been on the integration of technology into education. I prefer Macs to PCs, but am competent with both; competent, but far from an expert. I love teaching kids about computers! For many of them, computers are part of everyday life, and I learn as much from them as they do from me.
Favorite color—blue, I have numerous pets—from frogs and lizards to dogs (pic of dogs can be seen in the SHOOT YOUR PETS post) and cat (named Mealish short for Mean Little Shit), my favorite thing to do is spend time with my two grandkids, I love listening to music—from sixties rock to many of today’s young and talented artists. Right now my free time is devoted to learning about photography.
So, that’s me—not all of me, but enough!
(The only one I could find of me on my desktop! I lost most of my pics when I crashed my laptop recently.) Oh yeah, my name is Laura (not, "Teacher, Teacher").

Location: Nottingham, in central England. Favourite colour; Blue
In my day job I'm a media support technician at a university, which involves filming, recording, stills, editing and 101 other things besides. Another day at the office: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c103/ … 327rsw.jpg Other than photography, I do some volunteer work with donkeys and disabled kids: http://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/si … gham.html. I also dabble in electronics and the very occasional bit of programming I'm interested in pretty well anything technical.
Kit wot I uses; Computers: PCs at home, PC and Mac at work. I can honestly say I'm now fairly happy using either system. I suppose a PC is my first choice, as I've been using them far longer, but I can work on a mac.
Stills cameras: Canon EOS 40D, EOS 30D, EOS 1N HS, Canon Powershot G9, Ricoh GR Digital, Mamiya 645. I'm slowly rebuilding a battered old 5x4 Arca-Swiss large format camera. I do my own colour and black & white developing and b&w printing. Work Video: Panasonic AJ-D410 (FancyCam), Panasonic AJ-DVX100BE (BabyCam). I edit on Avid Media Composer, but I can also use Premiere Pro and EDIUS to an extent.
The family has a dark grey, fat and usually very nice cat. When she occasionally goes grumpy, I remember where she came from: Shot 3 times, rolled in oil and chucked in a river. A friend rescued her, but Molly didn't get on with her cat, so she passed Molly on to us.

Ben, I am most impressed by the donkey/kids with special needs volunteer work you do. I believe the organization you work with does some good work in Lamu, Kenya. My sister-in-law is from there, her family still is there and a number of years ago my son spent several weeks there. We have a strong interest in animal and kid welfare, so he took an interest in the donkeys. We have also been involved in pet and animal therapy for adults and kids. Do you have any photos posted anywhere that you have done at the center where you do your volunteer work?

Unfortunately not... With the concerns of child protection, photography isn't normally allowed in the centre. I do have some photos from a couple of events, but I can't put them online.
There's an official video on the site here: http://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/si … mouth.html And another one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTcodXG7TVs This is what I normally do there. I also fix their computers and do a bit of electrical test and repair now and again when I'm down there.

I'm enjoying reading these. I don't feel like I'm interesting enough for anyone to be curious, but I'll post in the name of keeping this thread going so I can learn about more of you!
I'm Deirdre. I'm a 39-year-old Mom living in a rural village upstate New York, just south of Albany, and smack between the Berkshire Mountains (in Massachusetts) and the Hudson River. I homeschool my two daughters, who are 9 and 11. In the past I did boring administrative sorts of jobs. I grew up in New York City and lived there until about 8 years ago. I'm still adjusting to country life.
I photograph for memories, for fun, and to keep the creative juices flowing. Most of my photos are at http://picasaweb.google.com/superdewa. I used to shoot with an old Olympus Camedia P&S. In February I got a Nikon D40, and I've been enjoying it very much. I love the challenge of learning the ins and outs of an SLR. I never enjoyed working with film cameras, so this is all new to me.
I love photojojo because I feel like people here understand the fun of photography and feel like everyone is accepted, no matter their skill level, budget, or interest.
Oh, I did a crazy thing -- my sister's friend asked me to photograph her wedding. She's seen my photos and doesn't want a professional (she doesn't want the professional feel and doesn't want to pay someone to do something she doesn't really want). So I'm photographing this wedding in late September and keep going back and forth about thinking I was totally crazy to accept this (I've read and heard all the reasons why amateurs shouldn't do weddings) and being really excited to try something new. Whatever I feel -- I've been getting ready like crazy. I've been reading and practicing and learning as much as I possibly can. In payment in anticipation of my amateur job, they gave me a few hundred dollars so I could add to my "kit," so I have new toys to play with and learn about (including a new lenses and a flash).

Also...i became interested in HDR after finding a great site and photographer who has helped me in my process of becoming a better photographer. If you are interested in HDR, check out his tutorial or if you are interested in great pictures, take a peek anyway.

Joe, you are only very slightly older than me! I know what you mean by, "...it takes a bit of time for it to sink into my brain..." I have the same issues! I took up photography only in the last several weeks and I must study and study for stuff to sink in! Thank goodness I have been into computers for several years, though I still have to constantly look stuff up that I forget! This forum group has been a real inspiration to me. They are wonderful!

Hi I'm Walter Ray Hardin Jr. I'm 41 years old and I have been into Photography since 1985. I was 18 then and thats also when I Graduated High School. I was born in Louisville, Ky. However I have lived in the Rurual areas most of the first 18 years of my life. After High School I enrolled in the Uersity of Louisville with a dream of becoming a Veternarian. Well folks that was just a dream. I quit school 2 weeks before classes started because I didn't feel I was mature enough for college. I enlisted in the Army the day after I quit. I'm on a roll. In November of 85 I arrived at Basic Training. In December I recieved a Canon T-50 from my parents. My first ever 35mm Camera. After many many many more horrible mistakes and loss of thousands of dollars (in this time I have used up the T-50 and several AE-1's and AE-1's Programs. I also had a Canon EOS 3, loved that camera it was stolen, and a Kiev 88 that was stolen also.) I find myself in Kearney Nebraska. I have been here for 3 years now. I have (I think) a 60's model Poloriod Land Camera, A Canon AE-1, a Canon A2E and a Canon EOS Rebel XT with plans of getting a Canon EOS 40D by mid Febuary 2009. I have done one Semester of college at Central Community College (Hastigs Nebraska Campus) Where I made A's in 2 Classes. Photography and College Foundations. Looking forword to doing 12 credits next semester staring in January of 2009. This is a Associates Degree in Media Arts. However, I prefeer a Photography School and I'm looking at 2 real hard in Colorado, unless I can find one in Orlando, Fl. Over the years I have worked at places like Lifetouch National School Studios ( In Detroit, Mi. Hi Tim H if you are a part of Photojojo) and this past Summer I was the track Photographer at Kamraceway in Hastings, Ne see my photos at www.kamraceway.org. Photography is my passion, and my only hobby since I no longer life on a farm and have no farm friends anywhere near me. I am working on trying to build a small photography bussiness. My work at Kam will aid me in my quest I hope. As far as photos I think I have some in photobucket. I don't know how to do it but you might could find me at rarewolf01@yahoo.com or Walter R Hardin, Jr. You can also view my work at www.myspace.com/rarewolf and at www.myspace.com/magicalimages1. The first myspace will have some of my first photos that dates back to 1985 on it. Thos of you that live in upstate NY just might reconize one of my waterfalls. One day I will figure out how to get my self portrait from my desktop to my profile here. Everyone take care and I hope I didn't bore you with to many details. Walt

I dig the subjects, there's some cool perspectives there.. but don't so much dig the processing. HDR is a very specific tool for very specific photos and, to be frank, it's just a bit overcooked in a few of those. More specifically (just looking at the first two pages) I really liked "Back Porch" because it wasn't quite as overdone but really disliked ones like "Ripples in the Sand" because it looks like all the slider bars are pumped up to maximum

Oops! The URL is http://picasaweb.google.com/superdewa. I will edit my original post as well.
I did try to get out of the wedding, but nothing I could say could convince them I couldn't give them what they needed, and they did convince me that it would be pretty hard to disappoint them or their families. They really don't have high expectations -- they are more interested in having someone who isn't there as a guest basically take some snapshots. If I've got to do something like this, it's probably an ideal situation.

I am 62 years old, married and in love with cameras and photography and also computers. I used to help seniors learn how to use various tools online. I worked at Thirdage.com but the site has since closed so many of its discussions and chat, that I also quit.
