Just found the site and all i can say is that i am glad i did. Here is my attempt at a storm shot. It is from Nantes France this summer while studying abroad. It is an attempt at HDR.

The first photo is great, too bad it was shot from inside. Love the lightning one and I love the way the HDR looks. Last night was a huge storm here where I live, I'm so unhappy that I continued my sleep instead of taking shots of it!
Double B, can you tell me how you took your image (camera, lens, settings), and what software are you using? Jfrand, how did you manage to capture the lightning? What settings have you used for your camera?

Honestly, I don't remember the settings I had on my camera, but all I did was shoot continuously until I caught a few bolts. The composition of the bolt on that one was by far my favorite.

I took these one night this spring during a heckuva lightning storm. Must've snapped a hundred pictures just to get these few. LOL Haven't had a chance to take the electric lines out of the pics, yet.

For that picture i was using a Nikon D60 with a Nikon AF 18-55 Lens. And in order to edit it i used the program called Photomatix Pro.
HDR (high dynamic range) is a style where you take several pictures of the same image rapidly with different exposures in order to capture all of the light as well as colors. Then you combine all of the pictures together using that program and can then edit further with anything.

@Double B - very nice that D60 has bracketing... My D40 doesn't have bracketing.

@yo5bdm - i dont think the D60 does either i have checked. It would be nice if it did though. Most of the HDRs that i have taken have been by hand. You would be surprised to see how well they can turn out when shooting freehand. Also, a tripod has become a good friend to me know as well.

you are soooo lucky with your lightning shots you must have a lot of patience to do so well great stuff i have tried hdr very addictive you have got a great shot there for manual exposures my camera has aeb and i bought photomatix i think it is just great but only for still shots your subject fitts very well i would have cropped a little out of the sky though for me anyway this hdr can be lots of fun.

 It's been an August full of storms here in New England, USA. This shot taken from my backyard.
