Picture in Picture Pass

Hey Gang,

Lets play a game where we create a chain of pictures in pictures. It's for a little project I'm calling "Picture in Picture Pass" which you can read more about here: http://www.susanbuck.net/picturePass

I think this forum is the perfect place to link the chain -
and it starts here with the latest image:
http://www.photojojo.com/forum/img/posted/img48156aeae7ee0.jpg?url=http://www.photojojo.com/forum/img/posted/resized_img481562531af5e.jpg

If you want to play along, all you have to do is print out the last photo in this thread and then take a shot of it. But make sure you call dibs first and that no one else has already called dibs (this way we won't have any overlapping photos). Once 'ya call dibs you have 2 days to report back with your image - or else someone else can scoop you on the task to keep the chain alive.

Where you locate your picture can be anywhere -
Maybe something specific to your city? I.e. the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran or The Big Duck of Long Island (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/NYFLAduck.html). Or maybe just something you find super interesting. Or maybe just your desk.

Bonus points if you leave a little tidbit about your photo such as why you took it there. Also, be sure to tell us where you took it (city, state) and your name so I can put that info in the gallery view!

ps: some tips for taking your photo:
Make sure the printed picture you're taking a photo of us clearly seen in the frame. That way we can easily pick it out and be able to better trace the photos from the previous shots. smile

I love this idea, but I have a concern.

When I've participated on other photo "games" here -- like the scavenger hunt and alphabet soup, I've run to find a photo only to find someone else had posted their response before me. This means these forums are popular, which is great for you. And it's not so bad when it just means searching my hard drive or inspiring me to take more interesting photos. But it's not going to feel so great when I've spent time, money, and/or paper & ink on printing and gone out of my way to take a photo that I probably otherwise won't have much use for.

So -- how do I know that I'm not going to go to the trouble of getting something printed and going somewhere interesting to photograph it only to find someone else responded first?

Can we respond and say "I got that one" and know that it's ours?

Oh, and one other thing -- I can't read the bottom of the Picture Pass website for some of the longer entries. I have Firefox.

Good point Deirdre - and I was thinking about this issue. I think the "I got that one" is a good idea, but I also wonder if it could be a chain staller...i.e. someone says they've got it then forgets about it for a week or two. : )

And on the other hand, I'm not too sure having duplicates of the same one is such a bad idea. In fact it might even be fun to see where the chain forks a little bit. What do you think?

Oh, and it shouldn't be cut off anymore. I made it smaller. And black so that even if it cuts off, you can still read it. I forget not everyone keeps their font as small as I do. ; )

Thanks for the feedback!

That's such a great idea!

I agree with Deirdre, it would be good to regulate this. Multiple pictures can be cool but not when you're trying to keep this organised- unless you want to make a photo tree instead of a photo chain. I think people would be much more likely to participate if they knew their effort would have its proper place in the chain.

You could have time limits if you're worried about stalling. Say I take one spot- I have to provide the photo within a week, or else it's open again.

In any case, I want to take part. big_smile

Good idea, Rodia. But how about instead of a week timeout limit, we make it 2 days?

So who's first?!

This is a great idea.   I'll go first, unless someone else wants to

I'm all for two days. And it could be somewhat self-regulating. If the person who said they were going to post doesn't post after 48 hours, someone else can claim it.

NinjaMidget -- the  first one's yours (not that it's mine to give!).

Yah I like that idea superdewa - it goes back up for grabs after two days.

Take it away, Ninja!

Ok, here's my contribution.   I used a technique that I first learned about on Photojojo.   I took the picture through the viewfinder of a Kodak Duaflex II Camera (produced in the 50's) with my digital SLR.  In addition to giving the picture an old feel, the viewfinder slightly warps straight lines and reverses the image.   The backdrop is just my laptop, but it's appropriate since I'm a computer geek as well as a photography geek...who's next!

Here is my contribution.  I took it before all the rules started so it doesn't include NinjaMidge's photo but it is here never the less.  I live in Virginia Beach and loved this gorilla at the Water Park nearby.  I had to go there twice - the first time it was pouring rain in sheets and I couldn't even see him!

These are great guys! And totally brings up how smart superdewas idea was to implement the "I got next" rule....Ack! Really sorry Sandy! I added both, because they're both great. But I'm not sure where to go from here as far as which photo should continue the chain - so I'll let the next person to call dibs decide!

I like how the gorilla looks like he's also holding the picture : ) And i'm digging the through the view finder shot, ninja. It's very 'meta' which is kind of appropriate to this whole idea.

Who's got next??

I can always redo mine, since I didn't really need to go anywhere to do it.   I'll just use Sandy's pic to take the same picture.   That way the chain isn't broken.   How does that sound?

That makes sense!

I don't have any photo paper and won't be able to get any for a few days, so I'm holding off...
