photoshop crashing..

Hi there,
I'm Mathew & I have a problem, Haha.
My Photoshop has just recently started closing itself down before I could save etc etc.
It seems to happen when I'm making fonts or shapes larger, even when I'm resizing the image... it just crashes..

My PC isn't exactly the best, but this has only started happening lately, (aswell my PC has been shutting down by itself [non-photoshop related]
Here are my stats:

1472 RAM
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.66GHz (2 CPUs)
1 x 80gb HDD, 1 x 300gb HDD

Any help would be gladly taken !

Welcome, Matthew.
First, have you tried clearing the PS temp / cache folders?

As you say the PC is exhibiting other symptoms, I think it'd be worth your while running a memory test to see if you've got some duff memory, which can cause this sort of thing.

Grab a copy of Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - you'll need to download the file and burn it to a CD, which the PC can boot from using software such as ImgBurn.
Once you've done this, restart the PC with the disc in, and let Memtest86 run for a few hours. If it throws any errors up, strongly consider replacing the memory.
If the memory tests out OK, try running scandisk / windows disk check on your hard drives.

If that tests out OK, there might be a more oddball problem, perhaps with your power supply, or this install of windows might just be getting cranky and need reinstalling - How long is it since you last installed windows (If it was preinstalled, and you've not done anything to it since, when did you get the machine)?

Hi Mathew! Sorry to hear about your PS probs. I had the same thing happening  to me. Have you tried to hold down "Control,Alt & Shift" and the same time? This helped mine to stop shutting down. Mine would start shutting down whenever I had tried to edit my photos. Once I noticed the screen start to give this little "twitch" like PSE7 was starting to act up...I would quickly press these 3 controls asap and it worked. Now I have no probs with my PSE7. GOOD LUCK!!!

vflo; that sounds quite odd! Have you got any other references to that as a fix for a crashy PS install? Any ideas why/how it fixed your problem?

Hi Ben! I actually read it in my PSE7 manual. I don't know if you happened to come across the post that I had posted several months back regarding my PSE7 shutting down on me all of a sudden. It was a nightmare for me. I didn't know what to do.It also didn't help that I had lost my program,so I couldn't re-install. I finally went out and purchased the program (AGAIN).When I re-installed it,it did the whole "crashing" thing again. I went to read the manual and that was where I had found the solution (to my problem at least). It all started when I had purchased a photoshop magazine at barnes and noble. The mag contained a cd with "photoshop extras". I went to download it & there was when it all went haywire. Now I won't even think about using any cd's that come with the mags. As far as why it was fixed this way....I don't have a clue. But I will look to see if there is any more info in the manual.Do you know if it worked out for Mathew?
