What does your screen name mean?
I have been wondering about some of the screen names you all use and what they mean. Mine is pretty obvious--"tufteach." Yes, I was/am known as a tough teacher (but fair). I know what some of yours mean but am curious about others. Maybe you would like to share how you got/chose your screen name?

One day I took my name and added as many positive sounding suffixes as I could in a list Willicious Willazing Willawsome Willderful
Willtastic just sounded the best
Also my other internet names are vwllss and Fonetik. vwllss is just the word "vowelless" with no vowels, and Fonetik is the word phonetic spelled phonetically.
EDIT: Also, in a fit of immaturity my gaming name is "( . Y . )" I refuse to explain why.

I just use my Dad's name which, oddly enough, is mine as well.
Here he is back in the 50s shooting a basketball game on 4x5!

ummm Will your gaming name is either a pair of breasts or a butt with dimples....hmmmmm.... it makes me giggle. I figured Tufteach meant you were known as a tough teacher. What did you teach? I bet your students remember you and have only kind things to say now.
My name came up a while back because I was always having to explain that I wasn't talking to anyone about anything in general, I was thinking out loud. That morphed into "hey I wonder if that domain is available!" and then into "What can I do with the domain I just bought?" Since I am always coming up with something creative, I thought (there I go again!) the name and domain would be perfect for my photos, digital art, crafts, whatever happens to pop into my head (*whispers*oh boy howdy you have no idea what goes on in here). The site is easily expandable (still under construction. I am so neglectful! Fortunately I am not a shoemaker or an auto mechanic!) so even I don't know how or what it will become, although I did just think of a couple of new ideas to add to it as I was typing!! But I do know, I enjoy thinking out loud thru my work.

I've used this screen name almost since the very first year I got online. It comes from what was then my absolute favourite book- Dostoievsky's "Crime and Punishment" and is the name of the main character. Rest assured, however, I myself am not an axe murderer.

Duchess14

Hmmm...Duchess comes from the movie Clueless. The main character, Cher, (played by Alicia Silverstone) is a clueless girl who falls for a guy that she finds out later is gay. He calls her duchess at one point in the movie while they are in class. I just happen to be quite clueless in life, although I've never fallen for a gay guy. The name just happened to stick. And people started calling me Duchy as a nickname, but that didn't last because I got tired of explaining that it was pronounced to rhyme with "touchy" not "do she".
The 14 part is my birthday. Sometimes I go by Duchess7414, also a variant of my birthday.
And, because I am silly, I decided that my camera should now be named Duchess.

Great thread topic tufteach.
I was going for the "Clever Screen Name of the Year" award and went with my first name and middle initial. When I talk to myself, I often to refer to myself as Karol A. Not sure how that started, but there it is.
The K in Karol is thanks to my dad. He was Carl. With a "C." It's a bit of a mystery he never explained. Growing up, I was often bummed that I couldn't get preprinted stuff with names. Later, I figured out it was a rare spelling and reflects who I am nicely. Plus I learned to love the reactions to "yeah, that's Karol with a K and Olson with two Os."
The A? That's for Andrea.

And I thought you had Polish roots, Karol! That's how we spell the name. Only it's a boy's name back home...

Look at this picture and you'll see where I got my nickname

Actually the person who gave me the nickname (over strenuous objections) was just in town for our 25 High School Reunion (UGH!). I'll post a picture of her here after I scan the neg.

That's her on the left talking to an old friend's mother. Lynette called me Red until I got so used to it that's all anyone calls me.

This is a fun thread.
Don -- that is a wonderful photo.
Rodia -- that's one of my favorite books too, but I haven't read it in years and didn't recognize the reference. I was actually just planning on rereading it and might have figured it out myself.
My name is Deirdre. My baby sister couldn't say Deirdre and called me Dewa instead. My mother got very ill during a subsequent pregnancy and was bedridden. At 12-years-old, I had to run home after school every day for several months and do most of the childcare, cooking, and housework. When my Dad would get home later in the evening, he would always make a big deal of thanking me for my work and would call me SuperDewa and get my sister to call me that too. Dewa stuck as my family nickname, and I've always used SuperDewa for screen names and other similar needs. It makes me feel like a superhero

Superd, in most English editions it's spelled Rodya, I think...
Your nickname story is super cute! I've never had a nickname given to me.

Degilbo

When looking for an obscure "user" name on a site long forgotten, I tried the name of a grazing property my 2gr-grandfather owned called Boompa. That name was taken, so then I thought of other "whistle stops" on our railway line, and Degilbo was the one I picked. I have used it many times since. It is only recently that someone thought I was using "obliged" backwards, which, I suppose was a logical guess. From what I can find in researching the name, it is apparently from an aboriginal sounding word for "big rock" or as one writer stated: "This is a savage peak of ribbed granite towering in solitude and silence over the surrounding hills". Anyway, here is Degilbo on Google maps if anyone cares to explore: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou … p&z=10 My hometown - Gayndah - is off to the left and down a bit, while "Boompa" is south-east of Degilbo. "Lakeside" too (on the map) was another property owned by my ancestors.
Superdewa, I think that is a marvelous name your father gave you. I can just imagine how appreciative he was of your skills - well done!
Tufteach, yes, your nickname was easy to guess :-).
Don, that is a mean set of flashlights your father is holding! I have never see such an array used, hand held - marvelous shot!

Just a few of my favorite things...my little white Maltese, Belle du Jour; Ariel, the Pomeranian in the icon who was my friend for 16 years, and one of my favorite cities. Besides...bellearielnewyork didn't seem to work as well.

I had a feeling it wasn't based on Disney princesses, Belle. It's a lovely screen name.

Belle your name happened like mine (minus the city). I had a long-haired Daschund named Max for 10 years. Max short for "Maxing Relaxing" because he was much more like a cat. Loved sunbathing, lounging, lounging so more and then there was always more lounging to be done. He did this ever since he was a pup. Marley is the big (goofy) English Black Lab I've had the last 6 years since Max. I got him before the whole "Marley & Me" craze and named him after Bob Marley. I thought I was original – apparently not. It was either that or Java but my wife won me over with Marley.
So there you have it – just dog names. If I added a city it'd probably be Park City, Utah – much smaller but gorgeous!

Yes, the dog names worked. If I had my sister's cat, I'd be in big trouble...her cat's name is "Little S..t!"
Superd: Some folks did think I named my dogs after the Disney characters, but Belle was from the title of a Catherine Deneuve movie, and Ariel was after the character in Shakespeare's "Tempest."
Marleymax: Ariel was the exact opposite of Max....a flying red fur ball who loved jumping on balloons to make them pop and barked back at firecrackers and thunder.
Great way you earned your nickname, Superd.
Thanks for starting this thread, tufteach. Between this one and the "When did you get your first camera" there's material for another Photojojo book.
