Chicago/Milwaukee Area

I'd like to get some people together from the Chicago/Milwaukee area to go do some shooting.

I'm thinking of taking a trip to the Chicago Botanic Gardens.
http://www.chicago-botanic.org/

Is there anyone interested in going? I was thinking on a Sunday. They are open from 8 AM to sunset, so an all day shoot would be great.

It looks like parking is expensive...$20 per car or $25 per van...but I'd be willing to meet up with people in a specific area and drive everyone over in my van and split the cost, my van holds 7 people total (that's only $4 a person).

OR, if anyone is familiar with the area and knows of where we can park for free, that would be even better!

So, just let me know who is interested in joining me for a photo shoot extravaganza!

P.S. I have several coolers, so we can pack lunch and maybe have dinner out somewhere? Or be cheap and bring both meals. smile

Um I don't know if you can park anywhere else... but the parking is basically your admission fee. If you could cram 13 people into your van it would still only cost $25 for all of you to get in. And trust me it is completely worth it!!!

Photochick, so, are you in for the shoot then??

Oh, for the cost I would totally cram 13 people, lol! I guess I could put the stow and go seats flat and then more people would fit??

LOL I would love to see 13 people cramed into a van... wait, I may have already seen that before.... scary. If I am free the day you decide to go I would love to. I am sure my boyfriend would like to come to if he doesn't have to work!

Ohhhhh I so want to jump up and down here and yell "I'm in, I'm in, I'm in".  But right now all I can give you is a keep me informed about this.  My wife's pregnant and has not been feeling well at all so I'd hate to (read: I couldn't) leave her alone on a weekend if she were feeling sick still.

But please keep posting here with the plans so when the time gets closer I can figure something out. smile

Maybe you can ditch the botanical gardens and take photos of 13 people crammed in a van.

Ankou, CONGRATULATIONS!!! And I totally understand about the morning sickness.... which really lasts all day so I dunno who decided to call it that.Maybe the dates in July would be better since she'd be farther along.

Super d, I like the 13 people in a van picture idea! There's already 7 of us in my family, so adding a few more would be pretty easy. smile

Yes, Ankou, congratulations!

Maybe you could get 11 people in the van and all do a road trip to Ankou's. He and his wife could be 12 & 13!

I've been trying to convince my husband we need a road trip to Chicago one of these days. It's just the drive there and back from NY is super boring.

Hmm. NY to Chicago with two people in the car shouldn't be too bad, boring probably. But a lot easier that 6 people in a pickup-truck going from chicago to florida non-stop... 21 hours crammed in the middle of the back seat....I will NEVER do that again!!!

That sounds awful.

There's nothing much to see between NY and Chicago, at least the first day of driving. The second day might be a little more interesting.

Super d, they would make 12, 13 AND 14, lol!

I understand the road trip stories, my husband and I just took the 5 kids on a road trip to Vermont for Thanksgiving. What is that, like a 17 hour trip? It was interesting, to say the least.

Hmmm....I would say we stopped about every 13 seconds, lol! Just kidding. Their ages at the time of the trip were 16, 13, 11, 5 and 5 1/2 months. We were smart and drove overnight for quite a bit of the trip.

Boy, we really manage to always get off subject don't we? smile

I'm thinking I need to cancel out May 31st as one of the options for dates. I forgot I'm getting together with some people from school to go to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Skokie that day.

Duchess and superdewa - thank you both for the congratulations. smile

Boy I do not do well with long car trips - anything over 5 hours straight in a car and I'm a bear to deal with. :p  When I was younger we drove twice from Milwaukee to Orlando - thankfully that was a LONG time ago.  But did make a trip into Canada - which was a 17 hour drive and I think we only stopped twice.  Ugh... no thanks.  From now on any long car rides for me must require stop for photo shoots at least every 4 hours. smile

Ankou, I made my husband stop for me to take pics too!

I don't like sitting for that long either. After about 5 hours I am definitely ready for food and photos and bathroom breaks! Good thing we have the kids so we don't get a choice. smile Plus, we had to make stops for gas (of course) and to rearrange the kids when they would fight, lol.

Wait til your wife is about 8 or 9 months along and has to stop every 20 minutes! smile That happened with my husband and I on our way up to Minnesota several years ago. He's always been a good sport about that kind of thing....that and the fact that while pregnant I would get carsick unless I was the one driving.

Wow...5 kids from teenager to infant.  Were you ever tempted to boot them out of the car and leave them...like that woman in White Plains, NY who only had two bickering kids to deal with?

Lol! Nope. And I never wanted to leave them in Nebraska or wherever it was they had that crazy abandoned child law that backfired. Sometimes though, I really would just like to go lay down and take a nap!
