Do you carry a camera round with you?

Do you carry a camera round for "grab shots"?
If so, what sort is it - digital/film? compact/SLR? TLR?
If not, why?
Have you ever seen a brilliant shot and been without your camera?
Ever got a great shot with your carry round camera? Post it!

Here's one I'm pleased with.

Ever since the incident where I thought I lost it, my Powershot now lives in my purse.  Which also helps me to never leave home without it.

It's my camera of choice, and I really don't think it's a bad camera (I'm not ashamed to whip it out in a room full of SLRs).  I think I've gotten quite a few good shots.  A recent fave:

When I took it, I actually said, "this is why I carry my camera everywhere."  I was walking with a couple of coworkers to the bank across the street from our office.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.  On days like today in New York, with a heat index of 100F, or if I have to carry a lot of stuff.

I have regretted a few pictures in my day, but I have blocked out most of them for sanity!  But, I do remember one: two girls jump roping, pinky orange sunset in the background, the color of which matched the dress of one of the girls.  sad

For going to and from work - or if I'm just running from point A to point B I don't take my camera along. If I'm heading out to enjoy the day I'll take the camera along.

Right now I carry my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I have a PowerShot A620 that I'm not using that much. Which makes me think I should toss it in the car and leave it there so if I do ever need to take a shot it's there.

I was out today looking at halls for a wedding reception and didn't have the camera along. Of course we passed by some really great parks - fountains, great looking bridges, etc. I was bummed that I decided not to take my camera. Grrrr.

I almost always have my tiny P&S with me. But I've also been taking pics with my dismal cameraphone more often. Even though the quality is pretty bad, I think they could serve as an interesting chronicle of daily life if printed small many shots to a poster.

Here's a shot I got in DUMBO recently while walking to lunch with a friend:

i try to take my camera out with me as much as possible, but i've gotten a bit lazy over the summer because SLRs are so big. i really try to because i live in a college town and there's always something strange going out on the streets.

The only place I don't always have my DSLR with me is at work - although I do often schlep it in. Just not always. Any other place, it's usually with me. Before I got into this habit, I missed tons of pictures.

Here's one I did get when I went to Baltimore (hon) for a show and dinner. I find bandoned, neglected, old things totally interesting - especially with these kinds of colors and old, faded printing.

I do project 365, so I ALWAYS have my camera, and a couple of extra batteries as well.
I just love catching random moments. The other day, I went out to dinner and just HAD to park the car and catch this:

I do now. I never used to take it with me unless I was going on some sort of trip or to an event. But I missed so many opportunities for great photos, I decided to take it with me everywhere. I have my Nikon D40 in a bag with two lenses. I luckily don't do a lot of my traveling by foot. Although it is quite light.

To keep myself motivated, this week I started a "photo of the day" thing on my website. Even if I don't see anything interesting on a given day, at least I will have my camera with me in case something amazing does present itself.

I definitely carry my cameras around. I work on a college campus, designing all sorts of college advertisements, propaganda, etc, so having a camera on hand is just part of my life.

The day after my D200 show up, I drove past this on my way to work.
