We are known far and wide for our love of shiny metal objects.

And some of you may have heard a rumor that we also like photos.

So, naturally, when we found a big ol’ piece of shiny sheet metal at the hardware store,

1. we simply had to have it, and
2. we had to find a way to cover it with pictures.

Enter the magnetic bulletin board: huge, affordable, and so easy to make you just won’t believe it.

How to Make a Magnetic Photo Bulletin Board

What You’ll Need

• 3′ x 4′ sheet of galvanized steel — ours was about $14 at the Home Depot, in the same aisle as the siding and roofing material
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Drill and 1/4″ or smaller bit
• Piece of scrap wood
• Hammer
• Small nails or screws
• Assorted magnets
• Lots of beautiful photos

Note of caution (because we love you so):
Be really careful when handling that big piece of sheet metal—the corners are sharp and the edges won’t do you any favors either. Wear gloves if you have them.

Also, this project won’t work if you get aluminum by mistake. Bring a magnet with you to the store — if the magnet don’t stick, it ain’t steel.

Step 1: Mark the Metal Sheet

Make a mark with your pencil 1 inch in from each corner of the sheet.

Then make a mark in the middle of each long edge, 1 inch from the edge.

Step 2: Drill the Holes

Place a piece of scrap wood under one of the marks you made.

Using the mark as a guide, drill a hole in the sheet of metal. Repeat for the remaining 5 marks.

Step 3: Put It Up

Hang your bulletin board on the wall! Small nails through each hole will support it just fine, but you can use screws for extra security. Choose nails or screws with wide heads to cover up the holes.

Hang it vertically or horizontally; we ain’t picky. If you’re driving into drywall, use wall anchors or ask the friendly bearded guys at the hardware store for pointers.

Step 4: Cover It With Photos

Break out the magnets and cover that puppy with photos. We happen to have a weakness for the extra-strong neodymium magnets, but any kind oughta work.

Yay! Magnets and photos, a match made in heaven.
