Thanks to Gursky, small is out and BIG is in. And if you’re like us, you were tired of small anyway. It’s simple: Upload your JPG file to the Rasterbator and it spits back a printer-friendly PDF. Use your trusty, or crummy, inkjet (or better yet, your work laser printer) and a few minutes later you’re holding a Rasterbated bundle of sheets ready for assembly into one chic wall mural. Take that, small. The Rasterbator p.s. Need a little inspiration? Check out the Rasterbator tag on Flickr. The photo you see above was rasterbated by Shannon Holman. Thanks, Shannon! |

Thanks to Becky, now you can join the “fun” and play Suduko online. With your photos! Becky’s game uses photographs instead of numbers, and allows you to create your own puzzle by choosing from your photos or those of anyone else (as long as they’re on Flickr.) You can even select the level of difficulty, send your Suduko to a friend, or save a game and come back to it later. The epidemic spreads… Becky’s Photo Sudoku Published on April 24, 2006 — See more Websites

But what’s the use of your tiny marvel if you need to carry around a hulk of a tripod to take pictures at night? Or to use the self-timer? Enter ingenius inventors and the magic of plastic. We recently took a look at two super tiny tripods. One’s about as big as a couple fat markers, with bendable tentacles that grab onto anything. The other’s just twice the size of a bottle cap and turns any soda bottle into a camera stand. Read Our Mini-Tripod Comparison |

Miranda July, the woman who wrote and directed the delightful “Me and You and Everyone We Know”, publishes quirky “artistic assignments” that get you thinking outside of your norms and acting creatively. Remember art class in elementary school? Finger painting and collages and pottery wheels? This is like that, but ten times more fun. You’ll be surprised at how good it’ll make you feel. Here are some of our faves: Assignment #11: Photograph a scar and write about it Assignment #27: Take a picture of the sun Assignment #30: Take a picture of strangers holding hands Assignment #39: Take a picture of your parents kissing Assignment #50: Take a flash photo under your bed Set aside some me time and dig into a few. There are no due dates, and you’re guaranteed an A+ in feeling good. Miranda July’s Learning to Love You More |

Exposure Compensation? User Selectable Metering Modes? Did you forget to show up for Digital Demystification 101? Yeah, so did Photojojo. Lucky for both of us, the fine lads at photonotes.org took notes and they’ve put together two amazing tools to help you figure out those tiny hunks of plastic and silicon. Tool #1: Think of it as the Rosetta Stone for digital cameras. On a single page, you’ll see dozens upon dozens of camera screen symbols and their meanings. Don’t know what that square with the three squares stacked behind it means? Just scroll through the page until you see the icon that’s got your goat. Tool #2: The photo terms dictionary. Look up “Dioptric adjustment”, the Rule of Thirds, or anything else that’s been vexing you. We bet our bottom dollar, it’s in there. Digital Camera Symbols, Demystified! See also… |
